  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Add the molasses, egg, and vanilla extract to the mixture and blend well.
  4. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until combined.
  5. Refrigerate the dough for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll out the chilled dough and cut into desired shapes.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are set.
  9. Let cool on wire racks before decorating.

Notes

  • For more flavor, add a pinch of black pepper.
