  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the molasses and egg to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  6. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Once chilled, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  8. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are firm.
  10. Allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack before decorating.

Notes

  • For a little extra flavor, try adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the dough.
  • These cookies can be decorated with royal icing or simple icing sugar glaze.
